Built upon an extensive knowledge of scripture, the Thomistic synthesis was a remarkable integration of many influences. His pastoral theology was affected by virtually all the then known works of the Greek and Latin Church Fathers, especially Augustine, Peter Lombard, and Boethius, and above all Aristotle.
